Coach Brian Gregory made the announcement Tuesday, less than a week after Rice, a graduate student manager and another person were charged.

The 6-foot-5 junior guard will remain enrolled at school and complete his academic requirements for the spring semester.

“There are certain standards that have to be met both on and off the court, and there has to be accountability when those standards aren’t met,” Gregory said.

Rice, son of the former NBA star, led the Yellow Jackets in scoring and rebounding this season, but he was already serving his third suspension at the time of the incident, in which a gun was allegedly fired accidentally.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Former NBA player Javaris Crittenton has appeared in a Los Angeles court and waived extradition proceedings in connection with his murder arrest in Atlanta.

Crittenton told the court Wednesday that he had signed the waiver voluntarily.

He is expected to be returned to Georgia between Sept. 15 and Sept. 30.

Crittenton appeared in court after the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office charged him with being a fugitive from justice. He was arrested earlier this week at a Southern California airport.
