Rookie Rams Cornerback Arrested On DUI Charge

HELENA, Mont. (AP) – St. Louis Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson was arrested on a misdemeanor driving under the influence charge in Missoula, where he played college football for the University of Montana.

Missoula County jail records indicate Johnson was booked into jail at 3:05 a.m. Friday and released about an hour later after posting a $700 bond.

Johnson, 23, of Stockton, Calif., was picked by the Rams in the third round of the 2012 draft. He recorded 31 tackles and two interceptions as a rookie.

Austin Over City Limits

Seattle police said Washington Huskies standout tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Saturday night.

Police spokesman Detective Mark Jamieson said Seferian-Jenkins was arrested in Seattle near the University District neighborhood. He was released from the precinct office.

Washington head football coach Steve Sarkisian said in a statement that Seferian-Jenkins made decisions “that fall short of our expectations for student-athletes.”

Sarkisian said Seferian-Jenkins will be disciplined, but he didn’t specify how. He also said the team will support Seferian-Jenkins through this situation.

Seferian-Jenkins is regarded as one of the top tight ends in college football.

Great Britton!

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) – Jail records show Boston Red Sox left-handed pitcher Drake Britton was arrested in Fort Myers on a charge of driving under the influence. 

The 23-year-old was arrested early Saturday morning. He also faces charges of reckless driving and DUI with property damage. He posted bond later that day.

His arrest report said Britton was speeding when a deputy tried to stop him for “numerous traffic violations.”

The report said Britton drove his car over a curb and knocked down a fence. He then drove over it before making a complete stop. Britton admitted to the deputy he had been drinking, the report added.

Britton was optioned to Double-A Portland in Maine during the team’s first round of roster cuts.

The team released a statement Tuesday saying it takes the arrest “very seriously, and it is being addressed.” The team declined further comment.

Bridge Over Troubled Water

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Authorities say Oakland Raiders wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey has been charged with misdemeanor drunken driving following his arrest last month after a traffic stop on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.

California Highway Patrol Officer Tony Tam says Heyward-Bey was driving his 2012 Range Rover on the lower deck of the bridge April 7 when he was pulled over by a CHP officer who saw him speeding and weaving.

Tam says the 25-year-old was arrested after failing a field sobriety test.  Authorities have not said what his blood-alcohol level was at the time of the incident.

Heyward-Bey was the Raiders’ first-round draft pick in 2009. He had a breakout season in 2011 after struggling in his first two years.

Team officials did not immediately return a call seeking comment about the charges.

Heyward-Bey is due in court May 31.

Drunken Woods

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – Authorities said former NBA player Loren Woods was arrested on DUI charges in Tampa.

Jail records show Woods, 33, refused a blood-alcohol test when he was arrested early Wednesday. He was later released on $2,500 bail.

According to the NBA’s website, Woods played for six years, including a brief stint with the Miami Heat.

Woods was arrested on a misdemeanor DUI charge and a felony count of bribery of a public servant.
